Pitkin Ave

I created a playlist of songs, bands, jazz that were popular between 1945 and 1948. Count Basie, Artie Shaw, Duke Ellington, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, the Andrews Sisters, Charlie Parker, Ella Fitzgerald, Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Nat King Cole, Dizzy Gillespie. I painted while immersed in the beat and rhythm of the music. Sometimes, using both hands simultaneously to make marks, sometimes dancing with the downbeat. I hope you sense the music behind the images, floating like Bird’s alto sax above the layers of translucent paint. At the end, I spontaneously slapped an “A” on the painting just as I heard Duke Ellington spin “Take the A train.”
