Bygone: The Artist and His Parents

This painting is based on a photo. At the time, Mom was terminally ill with cancer, and it was just after Dad had had a heart attack. I had come home from graduate school, and it felt like we were together and alone on the couch in the family room Dad had built with his own hands. To me, this painting is filled with melancholy.
